Needy Receive Army Surplus

YOKOSUKA, Japan, Jan. 18- Destroyer Squadron 34, which sailed from Newport, Rhode Island, with 172 barrels of clothing, blankets, soap, toys and $3,000 in medicines for the Maryknoll Clinic in Korea's southern port city of Pusan, arrived Thursday at Yokosuka.

The relief materials were gathered by the Newport chapter of the Knights of Columbus after they received a letter requesting aid for the clinic from Capt. Daniel Carlson, Newport, chief of staff of Task Force 95.

Under the slogan, "Carlson's Campaign for Korea," everything from 5 percent sulfathiazol ointment to 400 rubber balls was collected in Newport and the surrounding New England area.
